Mary's Meals
Mary’s Meals are provided to 1000 children in 10 different centres in 5 states Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttaranchal and Bihar. They are run in conjunction with schools catering for some of the most disadvantaged children in India – children from the low castes and tribal peoples.

Mary's Meals is helping children in India to attend school
These children are the most likely to miss out on an education and so their communities remain imprisoned in poverty. The provision of a daily meal motivates children to attend regularly who might otherwise be forced to work in the fields, factories or streets in order to feed themselves.
There is a zero drop out rate in these schools since the introduction of Mary’s Meals.
Tsunami Recovery Project - India
SIR responded to the Indian Ocean disaster initially by sending containers of emergency aid to the Nagapattinam area in Tamil Nadu, India.
The project aimed to help a group of around 100 families recover from the disaster. They had been dependant on fishing and the tsunami had destroyed their homes and livelihood as well as many loved ones.
Working closely with our local partner charity, Pragati Social Services Society (PSSS), SIR began to provide a variety of practical assistance including; Post trauma counseling, Emergency Shelters, A mobile health clinic, Pre-School Day Care – including orphan care, Temporary Shelters, New Family Homes, and Replacement Fishing
Equipment.

Tsunami Recovery medical assistance
This project is now nearing completion as replacement permanent houses are under construction. A celebration to mark the families taking possession of their new homes is planned for spring 2007.
