We wanted to tell you about a new way of helping us expand Mary’s Meals in Malawi that we call, School Assignments.
Every day, Mary’s Meals provides over
200,000 school children with a mug of nutritious, maize porridge.
Peter Nkata, Mary’s Meals Malawi Director, tells us that as Mary’s Meals becomes better known, more and more parents and teachers approach him, begging him to set up Mary’s Meals in their school.
They have heard about the difference that this daily meal makes to the health of young children, to school attendance, to families struggling to feed themselves.
We have everything in place to extend Mary’s Meals to their schools - all we lack is the funds. School Assignments, as you will see from the enclosed leaflet, (feel free to ask us for more!) is a way of helping us cover the costs of setting up Mary’s Meals in a new school. Perhaps your workplace, your parish or your club might be interested in this way of fundraising.
If they ask you whether Mary’s Meals is really that effective perhaps you can tell them about Joe. Joe (pictured opposite) is one of 40 pupils from a slum area of Blantyre, Malawi, who were awarded a place in secondary school because of their excellent exam results.
“Mary’s Meals has helped me very much because we had no food at our home. When my stomach is full I am able to listen attentively to what the teacher is teaching us and that’s the whole reason why I believe I got selected into secondary school. I owe all this to Mary’s Meals and I thank them for a job well done! My ambition after I finish my secondary school would be to be selected into university where I would like to do law"
