Marys Meals
SIR is providing Mary’s Meals in 3 different areas in Uganda:
Kampala
Around 3 000 children receive Mary’s Meals in Kampala.  These are children attending; Bishop Cipriano Secondary, St James Primary and Bbiino Nursery.  Many of these children have fled from the violence that has held the north of the country in its grip for the last 2 decades.

Masaka
Mary’s Meals projects are feeding around 900 pupils attending schools in the Masaka region.  The day to day work is carried out by members of an organization set up by widows to address the particular problems they face.

Gulu

A small Mary’s Meals project is underway in a town in the north of the country where the Acholi people have been preyed upon by the infamous Lord’s Resistance Army.  Every night thousands of children dubbed, the ‘night commuters’ leave their homes to take refuge in churches and public buildings in order to avoid abduction.  Mary’s Meals is served to 313 children who shelter in a church in Gulu before they set off to school in the morning.

Material aid
There is a chronic shortage of school materials in many schools in Uganda.  SIR sends container loads of educational materials to schools in the Kampala area. These are distributed by our local partners, The Emmaus Foundation.  As the children are taught in English unwanted UK text books are of use in Uganda
